課程目的(Purpose):
本課程將在對傳統與現代彼此競爭、對話、輳合、或敵視的理解架構下,探討東南亞大陸地區之國家、社會、族群、及文化等各層面的動態現象。我們除了以泰國、寮國、緬甸、柬埔寨、馬來西亞、以及越南等國家為討論對象,冀望同學能對各國社會文化有基本瞭解之外,亦準備於族群遷移與流動之大前提下,在歷史人類學、宗教人類學、生態與經濟、少數族群與發展、國族建構、兩性議題、文化變遷、以及危機人類學等諸主題領域中,引領同學建立規劃各項“問題意識”模式之研究的策略。

課程要求(Requirements):
1. 自第6週起,每週由一、二位同學主持討論(主持者應先以15至20分鐘簡介本週閱讀文獻)。
2. 自第6週起,除主持討論者之外,每位同學均應就該週閱讀文獻中,提出三個問題,並影印分送教師和所有同學。
3. 第5週上課時,每位同學須繳交一份The Golden Peninsula一書的閱讀心得書面報告,約3000至5000字,格式不拘。
4. 另應撰寫二篇小型研究報告。教師將於第11週發二至十個題意,同學從中擇定題(目)撰寫一約3000至5000字報告,格式另行規定。請於兩周後繳交至教師研究室。第二篇的發題和交齊日期分別為第16週和第18週。

評分方式(Grading):
主持討論 15%
三個問題 10%
心得報告 15%

a.請準時出席。
b.作業遲交者,一小時內扣原得分10分,二小時以內扣20分,超過二小時者一律扣40分。
